Veterans Spotlight — Lt Colonel Peter Uchmanowicz/US Air Force

Peter Uchmanowicz served his country for 24 years in the US Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He comes from a military family: his grandfather, Lieutenant John Powers, fought in World War I; his father, Major Lawrence Uchmanowicz, served in Korea and Vietnam; his brother, Joe Uchmanowicz, flew B-52s during Operation Desert Storm; and his son, Nicholas Uchmanowicz, is currently a captain and flight instructor in the US Air Force. Lieutenant Colonel Uchmanowicz would begin his storied career after graduating from the US Air Force Academy in 1988. He was sent to pilot training in Williams, Arizona, then assigned as a pilot on a KC-135, in-flight refueler. His first assignment was at Griffiss Air Force Base in New York, where he would deploy to Desert Storm in the Middle East.
